Beilke Family Farm in Brooks, just north of Salem, has grown apples since 1950 and opens its 10-acre u-pick orchard each season from mid-August through the end of November. Eighteen apple varieties grow on dwarf trees low enough for kids to pick without a ladder, and staff help visitors find the best apples and learn the differences between varieties. The farm also offers u-pick tomatoes from about 1,000 plants (August through October) and a pumpkin patch through October, with pre-picked options available at the stand. Apples run $18 per 5-gallon bucket, with the 11th bucket free after ten. The farm accepts cash, checks, credit cards, and Farm Direct Nutrition coupons, and donates annually to Salem Harvest and the Marion Polk Food Share.
