True North Orchards is a family farm on Lardon Road NE in northeast Salem offering seasonal u-pick fruit beginning in late August: Honeycrisp through Granny Smith apples, Bartlett and Comice pears, Italian and Brooks European plums, many varieties of table grapes, and English walnuts, with gourmet garlic available July through October. Nearly all trees are kept at pedestrian height so fruit is within easy reach, and picking buckets are provided. The on-site General Store carries apple cider, grape juice, and honey made in the farm's commercial kitchen, plus pumpkins and gourds in fall and farm antiques. A picnic and seating area sits next to the store, leashed dogs are welcome, and the orchard is low-spray with minimal pesticide use. Open Thursday-Sunday during the season; in the off-season the General Store opens by appointment.
