Finca del Soul is a small vegan intentional community near Loreto in Ecuador's Orellana province, where the Andean foothills give way to the Amazon basin. The project's work is restoration: taking degraded former cattle pasture and monoculture land and returning it to biodiverse forest that also feeds people — a tropical food forest planted where livestock once grazed, an inversion the community treats as the point. Life on the land is vegan by rule, not preference: volunteers and members alike commit to keeping animal products and by-products off the land, and the community keeps alcohol and cigarettes out as well. Building is done naturally, with bamboo grown on site. The way in for most people is Workaway, where the community's host profile shows dozens of reviews and recent host activity as of mid-2026, with a light schedule of about two and a half hours a day, five days a week, and food costs of roughly two dollars a day. Residential membership was recently listed as full, so volunteering is the practical path to experiencing the place.
