Fruit Haven Ecovillage sits on 54.5 riverfront hectares along the east bank of the Río Zamora near Chuchumbleza in southeastern Ecuador, in the same Amazon-foothill valley as its older sister community Terra Frutis. It began in April 2016 when a group of fifteen people jointly purchased the land, and it marked its tenth anniversary in April 2026. The project is explicitly vegan-only: volunteers and members alike commit to it as a condition of joining. The land is a young tropical fruit farm, with bananas, rollinias, and papayas already in production and dozens of more exotic varieties — durian, marang, jackfruit, mamey sapote — being planted toward a full food forest. Governance is decentralized, transparently co-directed by members, with a six-month on-site trial before membership. The volunteer program costs $100 a month and folds in permaculture workshops on fruit-tree care, mulching, biochar, and compost; rooms and cabins can also be rented, and buses run from Gualaquiza and El Pangui.
